WHERE AM I?

by Kevin Walsh

I am the last of my kind. I had ten brothers, and they have all disappeared. When I am gone, there will be none to replace me, and I will be forgotten.

I think I read somewhere that it is on Ocean Parkway. Old mile marker.

Is that a Broadway milestone? The first marker was at the corner of Wall St. This would be 3 miles up.

Is the marker up by Valentine-Varian gone now? It’s “NY 9” … got some pics a few years back.

It’s Ocean Parkway. I didn’t know any still existed. I remember them from the 70’s.

Please do not disclose position. Posts like this ensure the marker will be harmed.

Definitely Ocean Parkway. I know; I live there and have passed this throughout the years.

For many years there was one on Northern Boulevard in the low 100’s street area. It was a streetcar mile marker with the distance from either manhattan or woodside.

Agreed. It’s not the first marker to go missing after an article was written about it,.

Ocean Pkwy. south of Avenue P. Estate Road used to run from E. 4th St. east to just short of Ocean Pkwy. It has since disappeared into driveways and closed-off space south of an apartment building.
