Inwood?

Getting there. Be specific.

I don’t know that area too well I have only been (lost) there once. But I agree with punto that that must be the Palisades across the Hudson.

on another note. If you add a “subscribe to comments button, I would spend a lot more time here

Somewhere inside of the Staten Island Landfill [Dump] area?

There is no landfill [Dump] area on Staten Island any more. It’s all covered up and being turned into a world class park in much the same way that Flushing Meadows was turned into a major park after being an ash dump for many years.

That being said, it does have that Staten Island look about it, and since Kevin has been wandering the paths in/around the center of the Island recently, I’ll say it’s somewhere in the Staten Island Greenbelt.

My dear Edward, I know that the “SI Dump” is no longer in existence. However, for Staten Islanders, we still say ‘the Dump’. We smelt it and lived with it for so very long that we use the former location as a point of reference. Of course, for those people who moved to the Island after it was closed, it is just large grassy mounds across from the SI Mall that will one day be a park.

Department of Sanitation has had for the past several years several days where you could go and get compost FREE from that area. Plus, the DSNY has just started a pilot program ~ Organics Collection ~ where they collect organic waste from home owners and businesses to be turned into compost. This I know to be a fact as I live in the ‘Pilot Area’. If you want to know more just go to http://www.nyc.gov/wasteless/ocp for more details.

Not the Bronx, not Staten Island….hmm.

Looks like some old-growth forest there. Inwood, Manhattan?

Inwood Hill Park near that little cove?

It looks like the Palisades in the background. I am sure that there is no dump in Inwood, but maybe it is in the Riverdale area. Below Wave Hill there is a fairly large expanse that is mostly woods but might also have this dump within it.

So, pray tell, where exactly is this place?

Two guesses:

1) Alley Pond Park, Queens

2) Spring Creek Park, Brooklyn

OK, this is on the Sherman Creek Trail, accessible at 10th Avenue north of Dyckman Street thru a parking lot entrance. It’s out of the way and hard to find, though there are signs. Going further back you’re in the Swindler’s Cove area at the Harlem River.

When I first visited this place in 1998, it was full of wrecked yachts and pleasure vessels. The city has since removed the boats and added parks and trails.
