WHERE AM I?

I’m on a street they used to call a turnpike.

Metropolitan Avenue, looking west from River Street. The four stacks on the other side of the river are part of the ConEd plant at E 14 Street and the FDR Drive. Metropolitan Avenue was formerly the Williamsburgh and Jamaica Turnpike.

The road seems to end rather abruptly. Was there a bridge here at one time?

More likely a ferry landing.

Although, considering the general state of repair, you’d be forgiven if you would have guessed the NJ Turnpike.

You would have been right if this was facing the Hudson River, but this happens to be the East River, and I know that by the skyline that is being shown.

Whoosh… I imagine the original commenter was making a joke with regards to the neglected state of the New Jersey turnpike.
