Because of busy scheduling — work, tours and everything else — I haven’t been able to limp around outdoors with a camera of late, which is what got Forgotten New York started in the first place. Fortunately, I have a library of thousands of pictures, which keeps the whole thing going during down periods like this! I hope to resume a semi-normal schedule of Forgottening in November (2013). Liedy’s Shore Inn, one of Staten Island’s oldest bars, can be found on Richmond Terrace near Lafayette Avenue in New Brighton, Staten Island; it has been in the Liedy family since it opened in 1905. There’s a player piano, an ancient phone booth—used during filming for the Madonna music video “Papa Don’t Preach”—and raconteur Larry Liedy, who will regale you with stories of Staten Island’s waterfront.

Nice to see a place like this is still around and in the same family for over 100 years.
Do you guys do any real research?!!! My business, Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn, has existed since 1859. It is one of the oldest bars in all NYC. Listening too much to one side of this story! I have, hanging on the wall, one of their first liquor licenses from 1893 – 12 years before Liedy’s opened.
I amended it, though I consider Killmeyer’s more of a restaurant than a bar.
