ISLE OF THE SQUAB, Woodside

by Kevin Walsh

You could always count on Henry Stern, commissioner of the NYC Parks Department off an on for several years, most recently during the Giuliani administration, for whimsical names given to otherwise nondescript public areas.

This traffic triangle at 37th Avenue, 69th Street and Broadway at the BQE in Woodside was given the alternate name for NYC’s unofficial bird, the pigeon.

My friend Gerry Guadagno owned it. She also had a pink one.

When I go, put me in a fellow hearse (with a smiley face). Black is morbid
