BOOT & SADDLE, South Philly

by Kevin Walsh

Though New York City continually strives to rid itself of old signage and other relics of the past, a new trend has arisen of actually maintaining relics and reusing them to some effect. This sign on Broad Street in south Philly appears as if it has been here for many decades, but the establishment it represents, Boot & Saddle, has apparently been rejuvenated as a country hotspot.

Philly is closer to the Mason Dixon line; I can’t recall a country hotbed in NYC since the Lone Star Cafe era of the 1980s.
