The Passerelle is the boardwalk that runs from the Mets-Willets Point #7 station across the Corona Subway Yards, as well as the Long Island Rail Road tracks, to the concrete ramp that leads into the park proper. “Passerelle” is French for walkway. I’m unsure how long it’s been here — I certainly used it during the 1964-1965 World’s Fair, but I’m unsure if it predated that Fair and was used for the 1939-40 Fair. Formerly, it was lined with flags of various countries that participated in the Fair.
I shot this on one of the grimmer days of the year in March and left it unlightened via Photoshop.
