Forgotten New York

CLARKSON’S CRAZY HOUSE

This “Berserk Eclectic” house on 111 Clarkson Avenue, off Bedford, was once a respectable Queen Anne house, with plenty of other houses in the area just as respectable. Over the decades, though, it slowly collapsed and crumbled into unrecognizability — although still inhabited.

Flatbush will lose just a bit of its spontaneity, though, when the house comes down in the near future and no doubt, something quite clean and conventional rises in its place. The house and plot have recently sold for over $2.6 million! What housing crisis!

Brownstoner has the story, as well as links to views of the interior and what the place looked like in 1978.
