Forgotten New York

(FORMER) WYTHE DINER, Williamsburg

The old Wythe Diner, Wythe Avenue and North 3rd in the Willieburg, still outwardly showing every bit of its 1952 Mountain View Diner Company exterior, has been operated under many names: the Wythe, Q’s, Relish, and finally its current guise, a Brooklyn branch of NoHo’s La Esquina (or The Corner in English).

The Wythe Diner sign has persisted, but has been co-opted.

I have some older photographs of motorcycles parked outside; there was a chopper shop across the street until a short time ago. The hogs have been replaced by rather more placid and Green CitiBike racks.

Many of NYC’s diners. such as the nearby 1928 Kullman Broadway diner, attempt to hide their diner roots, but the gleaming Mountain View chrome here can’t be denied. The diner’s website has some nice photos of the interiors and exteriors.

La Esquina averages 3 of 5 on Yelp.
