Forgotten New York

HERBERT BRENON, Woodlawn Cemetery

Here’s the unusual castellate Herbert Brenon mausoleum in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, which, unusually, features a clock which no longer tells the time, which Brenon hasn’t needed to  know since his death, in any case. Brenon (1880-1958), born in Dublin, was a film director in the Golden Age of Silents in the 1910s and 1920s, helming the first film versions of The Great GatsbyPeter Pan and Beau Geste.
