This nearly rusted-through sign on 73rd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues (my former block) was rusty when I moved there in 1982.
There are plenty of these type of signs around in many different designs — I really should do a feature on them. Most feature a graphic depiction of a child wearing what what was au courant in 1945 with the words “SLOW CHILDREN AT PLAY.”
The smart kids are inside cracking the books.
