I was reminded of how long it’s been since I was on Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village recently when I noticed the stretch between 73rd Place and 80th Street has gotten a set of retro version Type F posts. These are taller, thicker versions of the Type F posts that lined NYC’s side streets by the thousands from the 1910s through the 1950s. The retro versions have been used sparingly — so far I had noticed them only on Wyckoff Avenue in Ridgewood/Bushwick and on 8th Street in Manhattan. The Met Avenue F’s have been here since at least 2012.
Only a handful of the original versions can be found in Brooklyn and Queens.
