Forgotten New York

REAL OR FAKE? Tribeca

For some time now there has been talk about whether this wall mural at West Broadway and Reade Street, which has been there since I began essaying FNY in 1998, is a real ad, or a “Boardwalk Empire” type movie prop, which has never been painted over. The mural reads “Brush up Business with Paint, Paste, Paper, Push.” At least I figured out what “push” meant; at first I thought it was outmoded lingo for a paper product, but it merely means ‘publicity.’

Of course the issue may have been settled when I wasn’t paying attention. Is the definitive word in?
