This painted ad on Anchorage Place and Water Street, right next to the Manhattan Bridge, was shot from a pedestrian underpass that was closed for decades until rapid development in DUMBO called for more public space.
L&H Stern was founded by German immigrant brothers Ludwig and Hugo Stern in 1911, and moved to this location at 56 Pearl Street in 1920, remaining in business until the 1960s. I believe the sign can be seen from the north walkway on the bridge, itself closed for several decades.
Unfortunately the ad seems to get a little fainter by the year.
