FORGOTTEN NY fan Kyle Supley found this quite faded ad for Titanic the Musical in a Park Fast lot at #305 West 44th, west of 8th Avenue. Of course I am familiar with the James Cameron epic 1997 film Titanic, which made box office stars of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, but I completely blanked on Titanic the Musical, which opened the same year at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater and ran over 800 performances before closing in 1999, racking up five Tony Awards. Not being a theatre fan (my last time on Broadway was in 1994 to see Patrick Stuart’s one-man A Christmas Carol) I didn’t recognize any of the actors, save for David Costabile, who played Mike Wagner, Bobby Axelrod’s right hand man on Billions.
A look at Street View reveals that this wall has been uncovered for at least 10 years, but the ad had been “blackwashed” and the paint has worn off sufficiently so that the ad is once again visible.
As always, “comment…as you see fit.” I earn a small payment when you click on any ad on the site.
