Probably the biggest “painted ad” uncovered since I began FNY was at Broadway and West 64th Street, revealed during the demolition of the Liberty Warehouse in 2000. It’s an ad for Hunter Batlimore Rye, a brand founded by William Lanahan in Maryland. The brand continued to be produced into the 1940s.

The Liberty Warehouse wasn’t semifamous for this ad, though. Throughout its existence, it had a 37-foot tall replica of the Statue of Liberty on the roof.
