Harding Park is where many of my classmates lived when I was growing up in Clason Point during the 1950s. Most houses were ramshackle wooden bungalows for
Summer but were used year round after the WWll.
Houses could be bought but owners paid to rent the land they stood on. Many had pot belly stoves to heat in
winter. A classmate’s house caught fire and I think all
escaped. One floor cottages frequently burned but
volunteer firemen nearby quickly put out the blazes.
Many houses burned quickly to the ground though.
Everyone took up collections for those families.

I lived in The Bronx for 61 years and never heard of Harding Park!
