One of my great-aunts lived at 383 Harman between Wyckoff & Irving until the 1970s. The Evergreen was about a half-block away. There was no barricade or even warning lights: The trains would sound their horns non-stop. People pretty much knew when a train would be coming through and just coped for the 3-4 minutes it took to clear. I remember in the early 1960s they were still once a day Monday-Saturday. By the late 60s, they were twice a week. By 1975, they were down to once a week. Other relatives who remained in the area said by the 1981 there might be a train once, maybe twice a month.
