NEPTUNE AVENUE SIGN

by Kevin Walsh

At Neptune Avenue and Brighton 4th Street in Brighton Beach, there’s a pretty formidable painted wall ad for a midblock locksmith. In a few decades, after the locksmith is gone and the sign has been bleached in the sun, my successors in urban archeology will be raving about it.

Unless it’s hidden meanwhile by a new condo building – looks like one could fit in the lot next to the sign. In that case, the sign would fade invisibly – in the sense that it would not be visible to the outside world – until the inevitable eventual tear-down of the condo building.. many years in the future.

Am I seeing things or is the sign starting to show another sign below roughly around the middle?
