THE lots of 2744 Kingsbridge Terrace and neighboring 2748 were owned in the early 20th Century by German immigrant, piano factory superintendent Frederick Schill. In 1911, Schill filed plans for a three-story stone house with a tile roof to be built on Kingsbridge Terrace at an estimated cost of $10,000 to plans by Rudolph F. Knochenhauer, and it’s likely he developed it as a Bavarian-style mini castle. It made an appearance in the 1979 film “The Wanderers” and was on sale in 2022 for about $1.5 million. You can get a cardio workout going up and down those steps every day.
They don’t call it Kingsbridge Heights for nothing. Kingsbridge Terrace runs along a steep cliff overlooking Bailey Avenue below and the Harlem River beyond. It’s a tossup whether the Bronx or Staten Island is the hilliest borough; even Manhattan has some daunting inclines, at least for my 60+ year old legs.

Thank you for sharing info about so many interesting places. Is this building currently occupied?
If so, is it now a multifamily dwelling or private home
They certainly don’t build them like that anymore.
Since Staten Island has the highest point along the entire East Coast
at over 400 ft. elevation, and is 16 square miles larger
than the Bronx, clearly it’s the hilliest borough.
As a Staten Islander since the pandemic and having worked all over the city for decades the most overall epic hilliest is easily Staten. Yepper.
Yeah, 4 Corners Road is a hike and a half. I have walked down Todt Hill Rd but not yet attempted to climb it.
I checked on Zillow and it is now divided into 3 apartments.
dont forget this was the party house in the Wanderers
