FORGOTTEN NEW YORK was on hiatus for a few days because of a hardware issue: the keyboard wasn’t typing. This meant I couldn’t even enter the password to access the machine. I spent hours on the phone with Apple Care to figure out the solution. They assumed the keyboard was the issue, and sent me a new one. The new one still didn’t work.
I have returned to my 21″ desktop for editing but it has been a wild ride.
–Brought the Mac in to Apple bar in Grand Central for repairs with the new keyboard (which wasn’t letting me type).
–Guy listens and says, by the way, did you hit that tiny button in back of the keyboard to turn it on? I forgot to do it, though it was one of the tests for the old keyboard, which didn’t help.Worked like a top at the Apple bar. We laughed.
–I get it home. Fixed, right? Wrong. Wasn’t typing. I thought of a last ditch solution. What if it was the power cord or the surge protector? I shut down, switched the mac and modem power cords. Then booted. That did the trick and I am typing this on my desktop now.
It will take a day or two to gather material, but I kept up my shooting schedule as usual during the hardware fail, so we should be back to norms soon enough.

Yours is no small achievement. Glad you’re back up and running. Until the next infuriating tech problem!
For keyboard situations I keep a spare 5 dollar wired one handy. This has saved my neck many times. Glad the site is back.
Yeah, the joys of technology. Now if only Preview on MY iMac would present images in numerical order, instead of randomly, as it continues to do. No such problem on my 2013 27″ iMac, sigh…
Glad to see that you are back!
