Matthews Model Flats are the distinctive yellow brick buildings you walk past every day in many sections of western Queens.
In December 2006, I named 48th Street between Broadway and Northern Boulevard my favorite block! These buildings line the streets of Ridgewood, Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, and Woodside. It’s said that if these buildings were laid side by side, the entire string of houses would reach 4.5 miles.
