You are looking north east ward at the Long Island R.R. bridge over Alley Pond Creek . In the center of the photo is the rear view of the houses on 41st Avenue east of 233rd Street in Douglaston. On the far right hand side of the photo is the Douglaston LIRR station.
You got it. The steeple is the Community Church on Douglaston Parkway. The photo appears to have been taken from Northern Blvd. (I cheated and went to Google Earth to confirm).

Almost. Right church, wrong pew. That is not a steeple, but a cupola, and it is on top of PS98 on 235th Street, just north of the LIRR station.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but if that picture was taken in the early 60’s, wouldn’t Kiddie City be in the way?
