UNMARKED on street maps and un-signed by the Department of Transportation, Stable Court is a crack of pavement between Two Cooper Square, an upscale highrise with a rooftop pool (a rarity in that its brick exterior tries to complement is surroundings) and 16 Cooper Square, which hosts NYU’s Center for Ballet Arts. The alley is used for parking and storage, but with imagination the owner could open it to the public as an outdoor eatery or arts venue, similar to how nearby Extra Place was transformed from a dump to a destination. Per its name, it was likely once used for hostelry along a main road to Boston, which the Bowery once was.
The privatized Stable Court is actually L-shaped and turns north after running west a few hundred feet. Sergey Kadinsky has much more on Stable Court, Cooper Square and environs on this FNY page, which features several maps that actually show the alley. The area is fascinating, with items like The Old Merchant’s House, Cooper Union and St. Mark’s Place, once one of NYC’s classic rock & roll streets.

What other classic rock n roll streets are there?
I wouldnt be surprised that in the future some neighborhoods in
manhattan become gated communities like you see in boca raton
I wouldnt put it past them
And I wouldn’t blame them, either.
