GEORGE HUMMEL, Bushwick

by Kevin Walsh

This ad on the Brooklyn-Queens, Bushwick-Ridgewood border is in an oddball location, on the back end of a building that faces a parking lot on Irving Avenue between Halsey and Eldert. You actually have to walk into the parking lot to see it. The Brooklyn-Queens line bisects the parking lot, so, while the ad is in Brooklyn, it’s facing Queens. The store itself was at 1497-1503 Myrtle Avenue, near Wilson Avenue.

It turns out that Frank Jump has some information on Hummel, who was from Cincinnati, so I’ll pass the ball to him here. As far as I can tell, there’s no connection with the famed Hummel figurines.
