GRAND STREET HOUSES, Lower East Side

by Kevin Walsh

This pair of Federal Style houses at 511 and 513 Grand Street, just east of East Broadway, with peaked roofs and pedimented dormers, was constructed in 1828 by James Lent and his nephew Henry Barclay. Both buildings were altered to meet the needs of a succession of mainly commercial tenants during the 19th Century.

That’s an interesting “penthouse” treatment at 509 there.
