I never wear sandals, because my toes are a mess; I think they’re too far gone for any spa to fix, and I’m not up for expensive podiatrist treatments. Thus, I don’t frequent mani-pedi places at all. However, I did notice a pair of signs on West 14th Street at #44, above, and #55, as both signs employ classic fonts. According to its website, Rehoboth Spa Lounge was founded in 1998 at #55, and then moved across the street to #44 in 2020 with a name change to Spa de Rehoboth. That location employs an all-lowercase sign using Futura Book.
…while the old sign, still in place at #55 (confusingly so) is magnificently rendered in blue and white in Brush Script. The original proprietors may be Delawareans, as Rehoboth Beach is a famed vacation seaside town in southern Delaware; it gained fame as it is a relaxation and vacationing spot for President Joe Biden, where his family owns a beach house. Normally home to about 1500 people, its population can swell to 25,000 during the summer.
The name “Rehoboth” is Hebrew for “broad spaces” and appears in the Old Testament for three place names in the Holy Land. Rehoboth Beach was founded in 1873 by the Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association for Methodist Church meetings.
