In a situation that fairly ridicules work rules at the Metropolitan Transit Authority, you definitely know what platform to stand on to get to Manhattan at the Fort Hamilton Parkway station on the IND Culver (F train). The original brown and white sign (station tilework is in brown and gold) first appeared when the station opened July 1, 1933.
However, the MTA apparently had work orders to install new black and white directional signs, and up they went here. In many cases, the new black and whites were installed on top of the old mosaic signs (the agency is obsessed about uniformity) but in this case there apparently wan’t room for that here…so it was placed a short distance away!

Keep in mind that the original IND art deco mosaic signage is 93 years old and still looks good. A tribute to the original designers and work forces.
